April 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian(s),

Soon your 7th grade child will be receiving information about registration for next year’s 8th grade classes.  Students will be using Infinite Campus (IC) to make choices about performing music classes and preferences for exploratory classes.

I will begin meeting with  students the week of  April 3rd to show them our middle school curriculum handbook online and demonstrate the process for using IC to make requests about courses he/she would like to take.  Please discuss these choices with your child so when they log into their student portal, they can complete the survey based on your discussion with them about these offerings.  Students will be allowed to log in and make their requests from home with you, or at school, if they do not have access to their portal from home. Survey responses are due April 21st.

Eighth grade students have the option of taking Band or Orchestra, which meet every day, all year long, in place of Guided Study.  Students may also take Chorus in place of one period of their elective classes for either the year or for a semester, whichever they choose.

Please refer to the curriculum handbook to look at the exploratory classes offered to eighth graders.  Your child will need to select his/her top three choices.  We will do our best to get them as many of their selections as possible, however, we do not guarantee they will get any of their choices.

Your child will continue on with the world language they chose to study in seventh grade.  If a student has no previous world language experience, they will take Spanish 1.  At the completion of the eighth grade year, a freshman student may continue with the language in high school, change languages, or opt to not take a language.

If you have questions regarding this process, please contact Mr. Brent Snow at 402-715-8229 or by email at bsnow@mpsomaha.org.

We look forward to another great year of school with your child at Central Middle School!  Go Cyclones!

Sincerely,

Mr. Brent Snow

Assistant Principal
