April 2017

Dear Parent/Guardian(s),

Your current 6th grade child will be receiving information soon about registration for next year’s classes.  Our students will be using Infinite Campus (IC) to make choices about music classes and world language class.

I will be meeting  students the week of April 3rd to show them our middle school curriculum book online and demonstrate the process for using IC to make requests about courses they would like to take.  Please discuss these choices with your child so as they log-in to their student portal, they can complete the survey based on your discussion.   Students will be allowed to log-in and make their requests from home with you, or at school, after you have helped them with the decisions.  Survey responses are due April 21st.

For incoming seventh grade students, the choices are pretty simple.  Seventh grade students have the option of taking Band, Chorus, or Orchestra.  A student may take up to two of these offerings.  If they choose Band, Chorus, or Orchestra, they will meet daily and have no Guided Study period.   If a student would sign up for two music classes, they would not have a Guided Study and those two classes would alternate within the same period.  A student who does not take a music class will have Guided Study every day.

The other choice your child has is to pick a world language they wish to study for two years.  A discussion between parent/guardian and student needs to take place, as this is a two year choice they are making.  The language choice will be studied every other day in seventh grade, and then move to an everyday study during eighth grade.  At the completion of the eighth grade year, a freshman student may continue on with the language in high school, change languages, or opt to not take a language.

If you have questions regarding this process, please contact Mr. Brent Snow at 402-715-8229 or by email at bsnow@mpsomaha.org.

We look forward to another great year of school with your student at Central Middle School!  Go Cyclones!

Sincerely,

Brent Snow
