ELL students are already in the testing season! They took the English Language Proficiency Assessment 21 (ELPA21) in March and will soon take the Secondary Writing Sample when they get back from spring break. Then, they will take the Nebraska State Assessments, like all students at CMS.
Our ELL students come from all over the world, but they understand the benefits of serving and helping others. For the last 3 years, we have made fleece blankets and given them to community organizations. This year, they measured, cut, and tied fabric strips to make blankets for Project Harmony.
However, in February, we did enjoy the ELL After School Program at the YMCA! Students brought their swim suits, towels, and excitement to the “Y” and swam for 1 ½ hours! In April, we will be walking to Western Bowl to participate in bowling, an All-American activity. Some have never bowled before, but that doesn’t stop their enthusiasm for this cultural adventure! We will round out the year by visiting the Wildlife Safari in May and learn about some Nebraska’s animals in their natural habitat.
The 2016-17 year for ELL students was successful! Congratulations to 9 students who showed their proficiency in English and exited the ELL program! High Five to 16 students who moved up to the next level of proficiency! With all that hard work, we are sure that they are looking forward to a relaxing summer!
